On London Bus Routes 9 and 211

During July and August 2022 and 8 buses still running until the 11th September!

“A Billion Hugs” is an uplifting Public Art Installation that is currently moving around the streets of London - using a fleet of 25 Routemaster buses as my canvas, it’s my intention that my artworks, with uplifting messages in them, will give someone a visual hug when they need it most: so they feel more loved, connected and uplifted - to know that they matter.

It’s been an unstable time for so many of us over the last few years, particularly our younger generation, who've had a lot of uncertainty in their lives: struggling with unprecedented levels of anxiety and depression.  I want to remind them, and others who are finding life tough right now, to believe in themselves, to create dreams, to believe in a brighter future and to know that things will get better.

8 Uplifting buses are still running until 11th September!

  • It’s the total opposite of what buses advertisements usually do...

Trigger a sense of lack so people feel that they need to “buy” something in order to feel better: this is 100% about reaching out to people - giving someone a visual hug when they need it the most.

The 25 buses will reach many, many people… And for me, that’s part of the magic, we will never know how many lives it has touched - and it’s not something to be measured and become a statistic - this is an act of unconditional giving, unconditional love: from me and all those who have supported me in my vision by having their name/a loved one's name sponsored within the artwork.

I chatted to people to get their reactions to the buses...

  • Why I'm doing what I'm doing.....

Why I'm doing what I'm doing.....

16 ½ years ago, I left my job at a high-end art gallery due to burnout - the stress of it was literally making hair fall out and as I stepped out of the building for the last time, I saw a double decker bus drive past advertising a gruesome horror movie and as I felt that low, dark, negative energy, I thought: “How depressing! Wouldn’t it be so much nicer to see something more uplifting, something more joyful, something like “I Believe in You” to remind people to believe in themselves…”

I decided then and there that I was going to make a difference to people’s lives - rather than spreading fear and sadness, I wanted to spread uplifting messages showing people that they are loved and that they matter.

And so now, many years later, at a time when the world really needs more love, hope, optimism and good energy in it, I’m taking on those very horror movies with “A Billion Hugs” a public art project accessible to all.

I have funded some of the costs of "A Billion Hugs" by people sponsoring a name or a word in the artwork and the outpouring of love has been truly incredible - I’ve met many wonderful people who also want to make a difference: to see others feeling a bit brighter, loved and more connected.
